“Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being. Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light.” (Albert Schweitzer)
Are you a fire starter, an igniter of others’ passions, a renewer of spirits, a breath of fresh air? Wait — before you answer, I want to remind you that you don’t have to speak to a large audience to inspire others. And you don’t have to author a best-selling book to touch people’s lives.
Sometimes it is the quiet presence, or the knowing look of acknowledgement at just the right moment. It might be a touch, hug, or pat on the shoulder. Perhaps it’s mirroring back the inner greatness that you see in someone.
Often, creating a connection, an intimate bond that is palpable, will help another to recognize their own light. Sometimes really listening and metaphorically standing in someone else’s shoes will help them to feel seen, understood, and valued, and can rekindle their inner spark, reminding them of their own authentic self.
I’ve seen so many people minimize the beneficial effect that they have on others’ lives, thinking that their loving gesture went unnoticed or unfelt. So I encourage you to recognize the incredible value we humans provide one another, through our caring, loving ways, looks, and actions.
You never know when that small gesture you made might turn out to be a life-changing experience for the recipient — for those small moments of unconditional love are more powerful than anything else we can give another.
An unknown author penned one of my favorite quotes: “To the world you might be just one person; but to one person, you might just be the world.”
Don’t question your inspiration to reach out and touch another’s life….you never know how much they might need that spark at that very moment, to reignite their inner flame and rekindle their spirit.
Please share if you’ve had an experience like this…as the fire starter or as the recipient.
