This is a slogan that was made popular as a way to encourage people to meditate. However, I’ve found it to be true regardless of whether you meditate or not.
In order to access all that is available to you in life, it’s necessary to go within and listen to your own inner knowing, your internal GPS, your inner voice, your soul, the Holy Spirit within you, or whatever you call it. It’s your connection to the divine and it will not mislead you. It is trustworthy and always on your side.
It is when we don’t take the time (moments, really) to tune into this wise inner guidance, that we end up listening to our mind/ego and may find ourselves wandering down fruitless paths that take us nowhere.
And while some find that meditating helps them to hear their inner voice more clearly, others find they don’t need a technique. Here are a few examples of how people tune into their inner wisdom:
Paolo knows when he’s touched upon something meaningful and important to him when he gets goosebumps out of the blue. He knew he’d found the right studio to produce his music when his arms became covered in goosebumps as he talked to the studio manager.
Sabrina gets a knowing in her head, but it feels different from times when she is thinking a thought. This knowing is like a thought or image that just appears in her mind, without her having thought about it at all. It’s like someone dropped it in, fully fleshed out. And when she has one of these knowings, she also has a lot of excitement and energy around the idea — that’s how she recognizes her inner knowing’s guidance.
Javier gets a feeling in his gut. This is a very common way to feel your inner guidance. Javier was on his way to work one morning and had a gut feeling to stop in a coffee shop, even though he doesn’t drink coffee. As he walked in the door, he saw the most beautiful woman at the counter. He immediately introduced himself to the lady who would later become his wife. Javier trusts his gut feeling and simply acts when it signals him. He has seen it work so many times, that he no longer questions it.
These are just a few examples — your way of knowing may be different. Think back to times in your life when you have had a ‘knowing feeling’. Then recall what happened when you followed it, and what happened in those instances when you didn’t follow it. This will help you to identify your unique way of sensing your inner guidance.
To live your best life, remember to go within, or go without.
