“If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.” (anonymous, seen on a greeting card)
To live on the edge means to continually step out of your comfort zone, to push yourself to try something new or to do/see something differently. Living on the edge creates an excitement and passion about life, stimulates your senses, mind and emotions, and helps make life a surprising and fun experience.
When we don’t live on the edge, when we stay in our routine and sameness, we may feel our energy becoming sluggish and stuck. We may feel as if we’ve settled into a rut and things seem less engaging, less enjoyable.
Tennessee Williams said, “Security is a kind of death.” Meaning that when we stop exploring the possibilities and accept what’s known as ‘all that is’, we can become stagnant and dead even while alive.
I encourage you to take up less space, move to the edge of your known universe and explore new opportunities, possibilities and potentials — in other words, to fully live life with zest and passion.
