    Where do I find meaning?

“You’re not going to find the meaning of life hidden under a rock written by someone else. You’ll only find it by giving meaning to life from inside yourself.”  (Dr. Robert Firestone)

If you’re searching for meaning in your life, know that while others can certainly help you with where to look, how to look, and what to look for, the real answer will always come from within you. It’s fine to rely on a coach or advisor to guide you and suggest ways for you to get in touch with your own inner knowing, but be very clear that only you know the truth about the meaning, purpose and passion of your life.

It’s one of those things that can show up in a big way or in many small ways. For some people, meaning hits them over the head. A good example is the young child who always talks about being famous, sings and dances for anyone who will watch and listen, and then makes it big at a young age.

For others though (and this means most of us), our life’s meaning comes in a myriad of smaller ways. We find meaning in helping others, making a difference in someone else’s life, accomplishing something we set out to do, overcoming obstacles, taking on challenges, learning something new, expressing our creativity, and many other ways.

There may not be any one thing that is the overarching purpose of our life — it may be a combination of many things that provide our soul with fulfillment and satisfaction.

But one thing is certain — no one else knows the meaning of your life better than you do. Others can shed light, guide you, make suggestions, teach you tools and techniques, give you feedback, point out your talents and qualities, etc., but only you know what it is that inspires you and makes you want to get out of bed each morning.

The meaning of your life will be found within you, arising from your inner knowing, your essence and core. Trust yourself.
